Nutri-Score: sugars, saturated fat, salt and calories count against; fiber, protein, fruit and vegetables count for.

Each additive has a risk level. The riskier it is, the more it takes off.
Organic

Certified organic products earn the full organic share.
A product with a high-risk additive can't score above 49, however good its nutrition.
Cosmetics
Every ingredient in the list gets a risk level based on published research, grouped by concern: endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, allergens, irritants and pollutants.
- The riskiest ingredient sets the ceiling. A high-risk ingredient caps the score at 24.
- A moderate-risk ingredient caps it at 49.
- A product is scored only when at least half of its ingredients are rated — otherwise you'll see why instead of a guess.

What does a product's 0–100 score mean?
Novaz rates every product from 0 to 100 and gives it one of four colors. Here's what Excellent, Good, Poor and Bad mean — and what the score doesn't tell you.
How the food score is calculated
A food's score is 60% nutritional quality, 30% additives and 10% organic, with a cap of 49 for any product that contains a high-risk additive. Here's how each part works.
Why doesn't this product have a score?
Sometimes a scanned product shows its details but no score. Here's why — missing nutrition facts, too few rated ingredients, or a category that isn't scored — and what you can do.

- Is Novaz: Food & Cosmetic Scanner free?
- Yes. Scanning, scores, product details and up to three better alternatives are free. Novaz PRO adds product search, diet and allergy alerts, your full history and up to ten alternatives, with a free trial on the weekly plan.
- Where does the product data come from?
- From Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts, two open, collaborative databases with millions of products. Novaz computes its own score from that data.
- Can a brand pay to change its score?
- No. Scores change only when the product's data changes or when the scoring method itself is updated — never because of a brand or advertiser.
- Does it work for cosmetics?
- Yes. Scan a shampoo, cream or sunscreen and each ingredient in its list is rated. A product is scored once enough of its ingredients are rated to give a fair result.
- Do I need an account?
- No account and no sign-up. Your history, favorites and diet preferences stay on your phone. To look a product up, only its barcode is sent to the open product database.
- What if a product isn't found?
- Add it yourself with a few photos. Novaz reads the text from the pictures, and the product is saved on your phone so it scans instantly next time.
